My College Stress First-Aid Kit

It's my second year in college and I deal with the pains school brings me almost every day. Why not blog about it and maybe help some others out along the way?

Oppan guest post time

Guest post from Amanda Morrison writer of her blog AdLuster.

College is stressful, but I’ve recently come to the realization that the
stress doesn’t end—or lessen—on graduation day. I’m a senior at
Pitt-Greensburg. I spent the last four years studying media communication
and journalism. I’ve been looking forward to this final semester for as
long as I can remember. I couldn’t wait for the all-night cramming
sessions consisting of writing two 10-page papers and studying for a
cumulative midterm exam to end. Balancing school, a part-time job waiting
tables, an internship and an excuse for a social life has made the last
four years the most stressful of my life.

But what happens when it’s all over?

My graduation day is in two months, and although I’m excited, I can’t help
but think that the stress is never-ending. I have been spending my days
working on my senior project and other schoolwork, and my nights attempting
to get a big girl job and get into grad school. It’s just as stressful.

Resumes, cover letters, application letters, interviews…it never ends.

I feel like college is just preparing students for the stresses of the real
world. Is that true? After college will I still be as stressed? I think
so.

If this is true, and the stress goes on forever, I have only one bit of
advice.

Get used to it. I know I still haven’t.

But if you start to get used to the stress now, and work on some time
management in college, you’ll be more prepared for the stresses of everyday
life after college. I think that’s what makes college students stand apart
from people who didn’t further their education after high school.

We’re used to the stress. It’s new to them.

So when you’re feeling stressed out and worried that it’ll never end,
you’re probably right. But remember, it’s a good thing. Once you graduate
and head out to the supposed real world, you’ll be ready to handle all the
stress life throws at you.

  1. This is a terrific post. So thoughtful. And even though you're right, Amanda, and the stress never really ends, sometimes after college you can feel more in control of things. Well, some things. That helps a bit.

  2. I agree a lot with you, but I can't help but think the stress has to lessen once we get our "real" jobs because we'll no longer be dealing with applications and interviews. Or schoolwork. And hopefully we'll like our jobs at least when we didn't like school.
